Fifty Shades of Red Lipstick

Sharing is caring!

I was challenged by Shân to write about two red lipsticks that I love. You can read her part of the challenge here.

You would think it’s easy to pick just two red lipsticks, but when your collection is 90% red, that proves to be quite the challenge.

For anyone who’s known me for a long time, just the thought of me owning lipstick is a hell of a surprise. When I was a kid, I used to be a scruffy, chubby tomboy who wouldn’t be caught dead near makeup. This “phase” lasted well into adulthood. It was like I was trying to suppress any manifestation of the woman in me. My body and I have always had this rocky relationship, to say the least.

The last time I was spotted wearing lipstick before I became a tomboy. In other news, anglophilia had kicked in.

It’s only a few years ago that I got into makeup and allowed myself to explore my femininity. I know that womanhood has nothing to do with wearing makeup, but my point is that I was unleashed and I was gagging for red lipstick.

The first lippie that I bought was MAC’s Ruby Woo. It’s the epitome of a cult classic Dita Von Teese red lip. The thing with Ruby Woo is that it’s matte and it’s a real pain in the bum to put on. It’s not the sort of pain I want to deal with when it’s six in the morning and all I want is to be out the door as quickly as possible.

Ruby Who?

That’s why MAC R.E.D. is one of my two faves. It has a sheen to it and is consequently slightly easier to apply, especially if you’re an anti-liner like me. That doesn’t mean it’s not pigmented and you should still be careful if you’re drunk and trying to fix your makeup in the toilets of a pub at 1 in the morning. Oh, and I love its typical MAC lipstick smell.

My second pick is Clinique’s Chubby Stick Intense in the shade Robust Rouge. This one is MAC R.E.D. for lazy people. You don’t even need to apply it all that well, it just does all the work for you and mishaps are easy to remove. It’s actually a balm, so if you’re anything like me, always eating something or biting your nails that is, this chubby stick will need a lot of reapplying throughout the day.

Enough said. I have to go sort my lipstick collection by alphabetical order now and compulsively buy blue eyeshadows online.

This makes me wish my lips weren’t so small, although I think I’d look like a clown in red lipstick more than anything else. You look gorgeous, it definitely suits you! 🙂

Hahah I love red lipstick on everyone, especially brunettes (but I’m biased)
You rock yellow nail polish, though, and that’s at least as good as red lipstick.
      A true youtube sensation! 😉

I need to buy new red lipstick, think I’ll definitely try the R.E.D one, matte makes my lips feel dry.

      Hate matte lipsticks!

      • July 19, 2018 / 6:37 pm

They’re just so dry, sheen gives you a nice little gloss to it.

You look beautiful 😍💖 Loved the lipstick! I always love a red lipstick. I also begin to use make up pretty late like when I was 16 years old. We have to do what feels good to us.

I totally believe a red lip will suit anyone of any age, gender or complexion. It’s universal!
