Sick of the same ol’ unrelatable beauty gurus on YouTube? Have a look at this smaller badass beauty youtubers list and thank me later.
Hannah is the makeup addict friend I wish I had more of. She indulges in many products I also buy (or wish I did). (I wonder if her mom would be willing to adopt me?)
Sometimes she’ll do tutorials, talk about youtube drama, anti-hauls or just knit and update us on her life (knitting on beauty channels should be a thing).
Why I like her: I find her very open-minded, cheerful, intelligent, bubbly and she’s a great and enthusiastic communicator (I never thought I’d sit through a 30 minute video of someone I don’t know knitting and telling me all about her life, but I happily have). She has very interesting things to say when it comes to more serious topics and she happens to have a great sense of self-deprecating humour.
Mel is a makeup artist who used to work for MAC and Nordstorm until recently, when she decided to become a full-time youtuber. She’s a *major* makeup addict and collector. She buys and reviews every single big release (usually on the higher-end side) as soon as it’s out. I really trust her reviews and I love the way she structures them. All her reviews include at least one or two looks with the product she’s testing and she makes it look so easy to look good, it’s depressing (in a good way).
Why I like her: if I’m toying with the idea of purchasing a more expensive product, I’ll wait for Mel to review it so that I know if it is or isn’t worth it.
I mentioned this eyeshadow palette connoisseur in a previous post a few months ago and I’m sorry to insist, but she deserves way more subs than she currently has. She’s one of the funniest, most sarcastic, ranty-est makeup lover on youtube (and her rants are often justified!)
Her most popular videos include makeup she isn’t going to buy or palettes that she would redesign. I wonder how some makeup companies haven’t reached out to her to hire her yet? She’d give some of those people in suits a run for their money.
Why I like her: the fact that she talks about indie and/or black-owned brands more than anyone else. I like my ABH palette as much as the next girl, but I’m always happy to discover new, less talked about brands. She also got me into collecting single eyeshadows and I’m not sure I should thank her for that.
Abby, I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but I want to personally thank you for making my workout sessions so much easier. By the way, when I say ‘workout sessions’, I mean sitting on an exercise bike for 12 minutes, hyperventilating about my impending death, and calling it a day.
Abby’s anti-hauls are the best thing since sliced bread and I’m really distressed she didn’t make a Black Friday anti-haul video this year because I’m sure she would have talked some sense into me.
What I like about her: her Gemini palette, her glasses, her hair, her potty mouth, her love for music, her IDGAF sense of humour and her common sense.
Katrina started her youtube channel just a couple of months ago but it looks pretty pro already! The image, the sound and the editing make it seem like she’s an OG, you know. I suspect she watches a TON of YouTube as well 🙂
What I like about her: her sense of humour and her voice. I don’t understand her love for coffee or margaritas, but we do have a lot of things in common when it comes to makeup and I’m sure that if we lived closer to each other we would want to meet up and I’d watch her drink coffee while we talk about beauty related stuff.
Katrina has 145 subscribers at the time of writing, but I’ve been procrastinating so much that she might have 3000 by the time I finish writing this post. In any case, please go show some love to her and all the other smaller badass beauty youtubers mentioned in this post.
