Makeup Releases

2018 makeup favourites

Sharing is caring!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The only time in the year when confusing a stomach bug with a pigs-in-a-blanket overdose is perfectly acceptable. I thought it would be wise to write about my 2018 makeup favourites before I cracked open another can of sausages. Here are the products I’ve been using like a drug addict for the past 12 months. Same warning as in my 2018 skincare favourites: not all of these products were actually released in 2018. They just happen to be my most loved and used products this year.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

2018 makeup favourites 01

As you can see, this concealer has been getting a lot of love and will soon be found in my next makeup empties. It’s one of the first products that I reviewed on my blog and my opinion hasn’t changed since. I have it in the shade NW20 (my skin tone is a bit on the warmer side, but the circles under my eyes are 50 shades of blue). It was hard to choose between the Colourpop No Filter concealer (also reviewed here) and this one, but life is about making decisions, isn’t it.

Colourpop No Filter Foundation

2018 makeup favourites 04

Speaking of Colourpop… I’ve been loving the No Filter Foundation (reviewed here). It does have a blurring effect on the skin and makes me look like I’ve actually put a lot of effort into my makeup. I got a bit overzealous and thought the Colourpop Stix Foundation would be just the same, but I was slightly disappointed (see review here). The liquid foundation is definitely at the top of my 2018 makeup favourites.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry palette

2018 makeup favourites 05

A lot of people felt ‘meh’ about this palette because it looked like all the other neutral palettes with a pop of colour. Well, let me tell you a lot of people were wrong. This is a very interesting palette and the metallics alone are worth the splurge. I couldn’t even name just three good metallic shades because they’re all amazing. The mattes are greats as well, especially Dystopian, Twig, Slate and Noir. If you want more details about why I love it, read this.

Kat Von D – Tattoo Liner

2018 makeup favourites 06

I bought this because my fellow blogger Zara recommended it (by the way, go check out her Instagram, she’s the funniest person on earth). I have to confess that, at first, I kind of hated it. It felt dry and not very opaque. Truth be told, I’m dumb (I can prove it) and I wasn’t probably using it properly. Now that I’ve got the hang of it, I realise how good this eyeliner is. It’s the best I’ve ever used. The tip is so precise and fine that you can created perfect winged eyeliners without even knowing what the hell you’re doing.

#art

It doesn’t bleed and stays put all day. Probably all week.

Catrice Cosmetics – Glam & Doll Volume Mascara Waterproof

2018 makeup favourites 08

One of the cheapest and best mascaras ever. It’s around 3-5 bucks/quid/euros and it has everything you want: doesn’t crumble under your eyes, is super defining, the wand isn’t too thick and you can coat your lashes without going blind, has amazing longevity. I think it’s available at Ulta for you US citizens. If you’re from Europe or elsewhere, check out this link from the brand.

Clinique – Chubby Stick – Moisturising lip colour balm (shade: chunky cherry)

2018 makeup favourites 09

This is by far my most used lip product this year. I’ve actually just ‘hit pan’ on it, so it’s been a very mournful week. It’s very nourishing and the shade is just like the colour of my lips, but better. I’m pretty sure it’d suit any skin tone, to be honest. If I had to pick only one of my 2018 makeup favourites, this would be it. It has followed me everywhere and I don’t know how I’m supposed to live without it now.

Bye, little angel, you’ll be missed.

Honorable mentions

  • The Balm’s Mary Lou Manizer
  • Makeup Geek’s Vintage Blush pan in the shade Romance
  • Urban Decay’s Beached Bronzer

I hope you’ve enjoyed my 2018 makeup favourites. What makeup products have you absolutely loved this year?

    Hey there!

These are all really good. But that ColourPop… I’ve been dying to try it! I kept laying hints for Christmas but must be they weren’t obvious enough. But my birthday is coming! Hahaha!! And they always have great sales.

Yup, unfortunately, having them shipped to Belgium kind of defeats the purpose of a sale because of duty taxes… But next time you go back home, don’t hesitate to pick up a bunch of products, esp. eyeshadows. You won’t regret it.

Yes! Shipping is insane. But I noticed that they had free shipping worldwide a few weeks before Christmas! Let’s start saving up!! 😂😂

Even with free shipping, you still have to pay customs. I placed a couple of $50 orders and each time had to pay around $40 for customs..

I LOVE the Sultry pallete- the shades are not only beautiful, but every shade performs AMAZINGLY!

Also, if you want a super precise care eye I super recommend LA Splash Cosmetics Art-ki-tekt Slim Eyeliner. Best eyeliner application EVER and the swatch on the back of my hand lasted (faintly at the end) FOUR days and I work in foodservice so I’m constantly washing my hands!

Oh wow, thanks for the recommendation. I need to check where I can find LA Splash because I live in Europe.

Well, actually, that Kat Von D eyeliner is so good that you don’t need amazing eyeliner skills to pull it off! If you ever buy one, I absolutely recommend that you buy that Tattoo Liner 🙂

I love Mary Lou, such a versatile shade that suits so many people! The Sultry palette is really pretty, seems like a good mix of warm and cool tones. The MAC concealer sounds nice too 🙂

They’re all amazing. I don’t think I’ll ever hit pan on the Mary Lou because there’s so much product, but if I ever did, I’d repurchase it immediately!

Great list! I’ve been meaning to try the No Filter Foundation, I hear it’s really good! I am obsessed with the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. It’s amazing. I also really love the Eyeko liquid liners. Those have been my top 2! Clinique can do no wrong in my book. I’m always super pleased with their products. 💛

I got an Eyeko liner in a sub box last week and I haven’t tried it yet because I find the tip really thick (and I can’t believe they call it ‘skinny’!)

Go try the CP No filter, it’s really cool!

Glad to see you’re back 🙂
