It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The only time in the year when confusing a stomach bug with a pigs-in-a-blanket overdose is perfectly acceptable. I thought it would be wise to write about my 2018 makeup favourites before I cracked open another can of sausages. Here are the products I’ve been using like a drug addict for the past 12 months. Same warning as in my 2018 skincare favourites: not all of these products were actually released in 2018. They just happen to be my most loved and used products this year.
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer
As you can see, this concealer has been getting a lot of love and will soon be found in my next makeup empties. It’s one of the first products that I reviewed on my blog and my opinion hasn’t changed since. I have it in the shade NW20 (my skin tone is a bit on the warmer side, but the circles under my eyes are 50 shades of blue). It was hard to choose between the Colourpop No Filter concealer (also reviewed here) and this one, but life is about making decisions, isn’t it.
Colourpop No Filter Foundation
Speaking of Colourpop… I’ve been loving the No Filter Foundation (reviewed here). It does have a blurring effect on the skin and makes me look like I’ve actually put a lot of effort into my makeup. I got a bit overzealous and thought the Colourpop Stix Foundation would be just the same, but I was slightly disappointed (see review here). The liquid foundation is definitely at the top of my 2018 makeup favourites.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry palette
A lot of people felt ‘meh’ about this palette because it looked like all the other neutral palettes with a pop of colour. Well, let me tell you a lot of people were wrong. This is a very interesting palette and the metallics alone are worth the splurge. I couldn’t even name just three good metallic shades because they’re all amazing. The mattes are greats as well, especially Dystopian, Twig, Slate and Noir. If you want more details about why I love it, read this.
Kat Von D – Tattoo Liner
I bought this because my fellow blogger Zara recommended it (by the way, go check out her Instagram, she’s the funniest person on earth). I have to confess that, at first, I kind of hated it. It felt dry and not very opaque. Truth be told, I’m dumb (I can prove it) and I wasn’t probably using it properly. Now that I’ve got the hang of it, I realise how good this eyeliner is. It’s the best I’ve ever used. The tip is so precise and fine that you can created perfect winged eyeliners without even knowing what the hell you’re doing.
It doesn’t bleed and stays put all day. Probably all week.
Catrice Cosmetics – Glam & Doll Volume Mascara Waterproof
One of the cheapest and best mascaras ever. It’s around 3-5 bucks/quid/euros and it has everything you want: doesn’t crumble under your eyes, is super defining, the wand isn’t too thick and you can coat your lashes without going blind, has amazing longevity. I think it’s available at Ulta for you US citizens. If you’re from Europe or elsewhere, check out this link from the brand.
Clinique – Chubby Stick – Moisturising lip colour balm (shade: chunky cherry)
This is by far my most used lip product this year. I’ve actually just ‘hit pan’ on it, so it’s been a very mournful week. It’s very nourishing and the shade is just like the colour of my lips, but better. I’m pretty sure it’d suit any skin tone, to be honest. If I had to pick only one of my 2018 makeup favourites, this would be it. It has followed me everywhere and I don’t know how I’m supposed to live without it now.
